After a week of workshops, fieldwork and production, I've officially completed the pre-internship training of my Dow Jones News Fund summer internship, and I start my online editorial internship at Scripps Networks Interactive headquarters tomorrow!
I’m extremely fortunate to be one of the 86 students selected nationwide to participate in the DJNF summer internship program, and I'm really proud to be High Point University’s first DJNF intern.
As part of my internship I had the opportunity to spend a week, along with the other 13 DJNF multimedia interns, at Western Kentucky University, where I attended several workshops and training sessions, and worked with two other interns to create a multimedia story package.
Although the fieldwork was not easy, and the production took more time than we expected, I really enjoyed learning new techniques and enhancing some of the skills that I already had.
Working with the other interns was also a really great experience for me, and I and it opened my eyes to the similarities that are shared by all journalism students.
Much to my surprise, I learned that I am not the only person on the planet who loves The Associated Press Stylebook - in fact, many of the DJNF interns share my affinity for it!
Now that I've completed the first step of my summer adventure, I am excited about having the opportunity to apply my enhanced multimedia skills in a professional environment.
Check out my team's project from the workshop!
